OnePlus 5T Review

The OnePlus 5T is not only one of the cheapest smartphone market, but also one of the best. It's a great option for those who want a high-end performance without the high-end price.

Launched on November 16, 2017, it replaces the OnePlus OnePlus 5T 3T as a smartphone with better value for money for its impressive performance, excellent features and low prices. At around $ 500, it's certainly not the cheapest smartphone, but judging by the specifications, the screen, camera, and ease of use of the OnePlus 5T is comparable to other smartphones, with models costing more than $ 1,000 as similar-priced phones. In short, if you want to experience top performance at a much easier price, the OnePlus 5T is the best choice, provided it is good to use T-Mobile and AT networks & T.

Design

The OnePlus 5T received an A for our rating. It's medium sized smartphone larger but still small enough to fit comfortably in most hands. The rounded edges feel good in the palm and make them look thinner than they are. That said, the design is pretty pedestrian, nothing that really highlights the phone. In fact, I could easily mistake it for the Samsung Galaxy S8.

6.01 inches screen is one of the largest available and covers almost the entire phone, but not an edge-to-edge screen: there is about a quarter-inch phone without a screen up and down. While the room in the upper room contains the front and a small speaker, the space at the bottom just seems to be symmetrical.

The 5T comes with Android 7.1.1, the latest version of the popular operating system. The biggest advantage of this operating system on the iPhone operating system is the control you have on virtually everything. IPhone operating system may be easier to use, but the Android operating system is ideal for users who want to largely customize their smartphone. Of course, such personalization has its own learning curve. In other words, it's a compensation.

Cameras

The OnePlus 5T has a 16MP and 20MP camera. Both megapixel specifications surpass any smartphone camera in the market. The best iPhones and Samsung Galaxy phones are complemented by two 12MP cameras. However, 5T's high-resolution cameras do not necessarily deliver better pictures. All of these cameras produce very high quality images, so all have been rated A +. An advantage of 5T is the control it offers. While most camera phones offer automatic settings for the best picture, the 5T has a Pro mode that gives you complete control over ISO, white balance, focus and other settings.

16 MP front camera resolution is twice as high as any other smartphone. However, you can not use the portrait mode, which produces depth of field on the subject and background blur when you first take pictures with the camera. It's disappointing because it produces great selfies. Since this mode is not available on the front camera, you need to blindly record your selfies with the rear view camera if you want to use them.

Internal specifications

The OnePlus 5T introduces the Snapdragon 835 2.45 GHz processor, which is identical to the Galaxy S8. This processor, which has eight cores, set three performance records in our benchmark tests when it left the S8 galaxy. These records were destroyed by the Bionic X A11 chip iPhone, released months later.

One of the advantages of OnePlus 5T on the Galaxy S8 is its RAM. The S8 is 4GB, while the 5T comes with 6GB or 8GB. If we made the OnePlus 5T through the same benchmark of test performance, it was always higher than the S8 score, but not much: received a score of 80 percent while the S8 received a score of 75 percent. In other words, the performance is better, but probably not important enough to notice without benchmarking software. That said, this 5 percent difference is significant, considering that the S8 costs more than $ 200 more than the 5T.

Battery life

The OnePlus 5T received a general B + battery performance. Our sister site, Tom's Guide, runs custom battery life tests on every phone. In these tests, a fully charged phone uses automated software to surf the Internet with the screen set to a certain level of brightness until the battery runs out. The 5T took 11 hours and 3 minutes, which was one of the longest lifetimes we've ever had.

However, the 5T received only B + for the overall battery quality, as it can not replace the battery or charge it with a wireless carpet. That is, it supports a fast charge, which means that it can reach a charge of 50% in just 30 minutes.

Specifications

Like all flagship smartphones introduced in 2017, the OnePlus 5T is compatible with Bluetooth 5.0. This latest version of Bluetooth is a major update over Bluetooth 4.2, the previous standard for wireless connectivity. Version 5.0 has twice the data transfer speed, four times the wireless range and eight times the transmission power. This means that it is better to transfer the sound, it gives you more room to browse through your Bluetooth devices and can connect to multiple devices.

The most obvious drawback of OnePlus 5T is its lack of water resistance. Most of the most qualified smartphones are now equipped with the IP67 class for dust and water resistance. This rating applies only to products that can submerge less than 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes without damage. Without classification, you should be careful when using your phone with water.

As with the Galaxy S8, the fingerprint scanner has been moved to the back of the phone to make room for later viewing. The OnePlus 5T also has a face recognition feature that lets you unlock your phone by just watching it. In my experience, face recognition on iPhone 8 and iPhone X was not as effective as Face ID. In fact, it only worked 85% of the time. I preferred to use the fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone.

Summary

With an Octa-Core Snapdragon 835 processor and 6 or 8 GB of RAM, the OnePlus 5T outperforms the Samsung Galaxy S8, making it the most powerful Android phone on the market. Considering that it costs hundreds of dollars less than other flagship smartphones and high-resolution cameras and a 6.01-inch AMOLED display, it's clear that the OnePlus 5T is our option to get the best value. We only want it waterproof
